SLeaky gut syndrome is basically damage in the intestinal lining and you probably have lots of inflammation. It could be something you have in conjunction with a chronic digestive disease or something that happens on its own. If your symptoms last longer than a few days or happen a few times in one month and don’t go away with usual treatments, you could have a leaky gut.
If you consistently have bloating, gas, cramps or are sensitive to certain foods, you may have googled these symptoms and still aren’t sure what is plaguing you. If you’ve visited your doctor and they have eliminated celiac disease, Crohn’s disease or other digestive problems, you might have leaky gut syndrome. This isn’t an official disease, but more of a name for these vague symptoms.

Doctors suggest that stress, poor eating habits and/or drinking lots of alcohol can cause and continue to aggravate leaky gut. Since this isn’t technically a disease or diagnosis, there isn’t currently a cure. So please don’t believe any “miracle cures” such as pills or cleanses out there, because they simply aren’t legitimate. Ask your doctor before trying any treatments.

Since most stomach issues are the cause of poor dietary choices, the first thing you need to do is clean up your diet. If you’re unsure of what foods might be causing your tummy troubles, try an elimination diet. This is when you eliminate certain food groups for a certain amount of time then re-introduce them one at a time to determine which foods cause you digestive distress. If you think stress might be the cause, work on eliminating some of your stress. It could be due to a job, relationship or too busy schedule. Introduce exercise in your routine to help reduce stress and help your body process and eliminate toxins more effectively.

If you have really bad stomach issues and can’t figure out the cause, try a detox where you only eat non-processed foods and eliminate dairy, sugar, alcohol and other junk foods that often cause bloating, gas, diarrhea or constipation. Try taking probiotics which fill your insides with good bacteria and help fight off the bad ones that cause stomach issues.
