Research has shown that it’s important for new moms to start exercising in the first few weeks after they give birth. Exercising can make you feel more energized, and it can also help stave off postpartum depression. These five tips for exercising post baby will help you feel great, and look great too.

Start Walking More Walking may be the simplest exercise, but it’s still very effective. Put your baby in the stroller and take them out for long walks around the neighborhood. For even more of a workout, walk backwards or in a zigzag pattern. Try walking for at least a short period every day in the weeks after you give birth.

Practice Yoga Yoga is great for new moms. It will help stretch out sore muscles, and it will also help increase your flexibility. While you’re practicing yoga, be aware that pushing yourself too hard can cause injury. Some common yoga injuries include knee tears, pulled hamstrings, and lower back pain. If you’re careful and gentle with yourself, you should be able to avoid these common yoga injuries.

Abdominal Strengthening Exercises If you want to tone your stomach muscles soon after giving birth, try doing abdominal contractions. To do this exercise, just breathe in deep and contract your stomach, holding it in for a few seconds at a time. This simple exercise will help you start the process of toning your abs.

Work on your Lower Back While you’re working on your abdominal muscles, you’ll also want to strengthen your back. There are many exercises you can do that will strengthen your abs and your lower back at the same time, like curl-ups. Try doing a few of these at a time, building up your strength until you can do ten in a set.

Don’t Over-Exert Yourself If you find your muscles are aching constantly, take some time away from exercising and let your body heal. You can even treat yourself to a spa day. 5 spa treatments that are particularly good for helping sooth sore muscles are massages with essential oils, acupuncture, hydrotherapy, hot stone treatments, and mud wraps. Any of these 5 spa treatments will help you feel less sore and much more relaxed, overall.

These five tips for exercising post baby will help you feel stronger in the weeks after your pregnancy. By doing these exercises, you’ll be healthier and have more energy, which you can use to spend more time with your new baby.
