Dry skin can be horrible to deal with. As winter drags on, your skin stays dry and might even flake or peel. How can you apply makeup to such a mess? Here are some tips for applying makeup to even the driest of skin:

1. Use a creamy exfoliating cleanser to get rid of dead skin cells on the surface of skin but still moisturize the skin before you apply makeup.

2. Instead of a heavy moisturizer, try a fast absorbing serum or oil that will deliver faster relief and hydration.

3. Before you apply any makeup, use a primer. It will keep skin extra moisturized and smooth out pores and imperfections.

4. Use light liquid or cream makeup only. Anything heavy, powdery or cakey will only irritate your skin and flake off more. Try a lightweight, liquid foundation and apply with a foundation brush. Use a Beauty Blender to blend further if needed. Use a cream or liquid blush for added hydration. If you need extra hydration, make the Beauty Blender damp while you blend.

5. Don’t use your fingers to apply makeup because they will absorb the moisture you need to stay put on your face.

6. Don’t use powders, unless your T-zone gets oily. Then use oil blotting sheets wherever necessary.

7. Don’t use waterproof formulas when your skin is very dry because it will just suck out the moisture and lead to even more flaking of the skin.

8. Don’t forget your lips! Exfoliate your lips and moisturize them often. Avoid matte colors that can dry your lips out.

A stye is a bacterial infection that appears as a tiny red lump on the lash line or the eye’s inner corner. Generally a stye will only last a few days with minimal symptoms. The symptoms may include tenderness around the area of the stye, redness, eye pain, swelling, light sensitivity, the eye watering frequently and discomfort while blinking. How to treat a stye:

1. Remember, never squeeze the stye or poke it with a needle to try to pop it. You’ll only worse and spread the infection.

2. Use a warm compress over the infected area and hold for about 5-10 minutes. You can do this several times a day so it clears and releases the pus naturally.

3. If it is very painful, use a painkiller such as ibuprofen.

4. There are a few natural treatments to try as well:

1. Apply turmeric. Boil one teaspoon of turmeric with two cups of water. Boil until the water turns half and strain using clean cheesecloth. Cool the mixture and use as eye drops several times a day.

2. Use coriander seeds. Boil one teaspoon coriander seeds with one cup water. Let cool and wash the eyes with this mixture several times a day.

3. Use a fresh Aloe Leaf. Cut a fresh Aloe Vera leaf and place the pulp on the infected area.

4. Use acacia leaves. Boil a few acacia leaves into two cups of water and then apply like a warm compress.

5. Lastly, try black tea bags. Wet and warm tea bags will work very well as a warm compress. This can reduce pain, swelling and irritation too.

5. Make sure to give your eyes rest. Sleep more and use electronics less.

6. Don’t wear eye makeup, contacts and don’t rub your eyes to avoid spreading the infection and making it worse.

7. If the swelling, infection and pain last longer than a week or symptoms worsen even while treating, you may need to see a doctor.

8. You can prevent a stye by using proper hygiene, not using expired or old eye makeup products and never sharing makeup, keeping your hands clean before ever touching the eye area and protecting your eyes from dust and other irritants.

If you’re looking for a dewy and youthful glow, you’ll want to try cream based makeup. From foundations to eye shadows, most products come in a cream version these days. They are great for people with dry skin. Here are some tips on applying cream based makeup products like a pro:

1. Cleanse and moisturize your face before applying makeup. You can also use a hydrating primer to soothe the skin and make it ready for the cream based makeup. It will give a smooth base and ready your skin for makeup and create a long lasting finish.

2. Apply a cream before a powder for long lasting makeup. If you tend to have oily skin, using a powder over a cream will help create a matte effect and help your makeup last longer.

3. Creams are great for dry climates and winter, but they can be worn year round. If the weather is hot or humid, make sure to use a primer so the cream based makeup can last longer.

4. Almost any skin type can wear a cream based makeup. Just look for one that best suits your skin type and ask a makeup artist or beauty professional if you aren’t sure which one to try. Some versions are matte, which are better for oily skin and others are better for dry skin. In general though, cream makeup is best for normal to dry skin and aging skin. It provides medium to full coverage and is great for moisturizing and smoothing.

5. If you use a cream based eye shadow, make sure to use an eye shadow primer to keep the cream based eye shadow from creasing and smudging. You can layer makeup textures to create structure and make it long lasting.

6. If you’re not sure which brush or tool to use to apply the makeup, use your fingers. Synthetic bristle brushes work well but your fingers always work to blend. Just make sure your fingers are clean or they can transfer bacteria that can cause breakouts. Using your fingers works especially well for makeup around the eyes, but cream foundations or blushes work better with a brush so you can apply lightly.
