A stye is a bacterial infection that appears as a tiny red lump on the lash line or the eye’s inner corner. Generally a stye will only last a few days with minimal symptoms. The symptoms may include tenderness around the area of the stye, redness, eye pain, swelling, light sensitivity, the eye watering frequently and discomfort while blinking. How to treat a stye:

1. Remember, never squeeze the stye or poke it with a needle to try to pop it. You’ll only worse and spread the infection.

2. Use a warm compress over the infected area and hold for about 5-10 minutes. You can do this several times a day so it clears and releases the pus naturally.

3. If it is very painful, use a painkiller such as ibuprofen.

4. There are a few natural treatments to try as well:

1. Apply turmeric. Boil one teaspoon of turmeric with two cups of water. Boil until the water turns half and strain using clean cheesecloth. Cool the mixture and use as eye drops several times a day.

2. Use coriander seeds. Boil one teaspoon coriander seeds with one cup water. Let cool and wash the eyes with this mixture several times a day.

3. Use a fresh Aloe Leaf. Cut a fresh Aloe Vera leaf and place the pulp on the infected area.

4. Use acacia leaves. Boil a few acacia leaves into two cups of water and then apply like a warm compress.

5. Lastly, try black tea bags. Wet and warm tea bags will work very well as a warm compress. This can reduce pain, swelling and irritation too.

5. Make sure to give your eyes rest. Sleep more and use electronics less.

6. Don’t wear eye makeup, contacts and don’t rub your eyes to avoid spreading the infection and making it worse.

7. If the swelling, infection and pain last longer than a week or symptoms worsen even while treating, you may need to see a doctor.

8. You can prevent a stye by using proper hygiene, not using expired or old eye makeup products and never sharing makeup, keeping your hands clean before ever touching the eye area and protecting your eyes from dust and other irritants.
