03-05-06 sugarLearning the dangers of sugar substitutes can reveal several reasons to quit sugar for life. While it may seem to only exist in the time of cavemen, there was a time when people were not so reliant on sugar. But now that sugar, especially refined sugar, has reached industrialized levels of making it available in every home and almost every meal, people are going to have to check their sugar habits before it is too late. That’s right, that sweet tooth can be deadly.

Understanding the Side Effects
The problem with refined sugar is that it has been too blindly accepted into people’s meals not only as something to sprinkle on top but as an additive as well. Sugar provides empty calories which leaves men and women with hungry cells. It can be especially detrimental in women and children leading to health problems such as diabetes. Do research about what you and your family are eating. Just because it’s been around for “ages” and has undergone FDA testing doesn’t mean it is still safe to eat.
More and more studies are showing that people would do better to move away from using sugar since it does not provide the body with a positive side effect, instead limiting the body to sugar crashes, insulin rashes, headaches, migraines, and more. That’s plenty of reasons to quit sugar in your life.

Types of Sugar Substitutes
Not all sugar substitutes are created equal. Some have been on the market longer while others are still very questionable about what long term effects they wrought.
A few common types of sugar substitutes that come in packet form or have even been added to prepared meals such as brownie mixes, cake mixes, and ice cream include:
● Equal
● Sweet and Low
● Splenda
● Saccharin
All of the above, especially Splenda, raised red flags for doctors reviewing their patients’ diets. Splenda is especially an eyebrow raiser because of its empty calories and negative side effects on lab rats.

Natural Sugar Substitutes
When people want something a little sweet they would get further by applying a topical application of sugar sweetness to their food. Here are a few suggestions of things that can be added in moderation to help people wean themselves of the sugary good stuff:
● Honey
● Maple Syrup
● Molasses

Warning Label Red Flags
A person wanting to compare and contrast sugar vs no sugar can just look at the nutritional facts on the side of the cereal box, candy bar, or any other food. When the below are listed near the top of ingredients it would be best to steer clear of those products:
● Corn Syrup
● High Fructose Corn Syrup
● Sugar
● Aspartame

Once you’ve learned the negative effects of sugar substitutes you can start living a healthier lifestyle by cutting out sugary treats one day at a time. Be strong. Live healthier.

pink-lipstick

Matt or glossy, past or modern, diffused, solid or Pink Lipstick - and Smashbox seems to have everything a woman wants.

Millions of women and girls wear lipstick every day. And sure enough, some fashionable women touch up their color more than 15 times a day.
But are these women exposing themselves to toxic metals?
Scientists say most lipsticks contain some traces of lead. To make matters worse a newer study reveals a wide range of lipstick products contain as many as eight metals.

What would happen to women if these harmful metals are swallowed or sucked up on a daily basis?

Use of aluminum and titanium dioxide are approved by FDA. The former keeps color from bleeding and the latter is used as a whitening agent. But other metals, according to experts are probably superfluous contaminants.

So what is the way out? Should women stop wearing lipstick?
A doctor says that we must treat lipstick with caution, because if we consume it, a large quantity of metals gets into our body.

Women must be especially cautious how often they reapply their favorite color.

The key tips to stay safe are:

• Use less, far less if you find yourself reapplying your color 15 times a day. • Do not allow children to use lipstick as their young bodies are especially susceptible to contaminated metals. Does this look frightening? When lead is not allowed in paint and gasoline, why should it be skulking on your lipstick?

Maybe you can find lead-free lipstick in the beauty stores.

Another way to considerably reduce hazards of toxic metals is to wear a lipstick that does not require touch ups. Today in the market you can find the latest generation of lip colors that are prettier and longer lasting than the regular ones.

Fortunately, pink lipstick and smashbox could be a safe combination. Manufacturers of some well-known brands swear that each and every ingredient in their product are thoroughly reviewed by their in-house quality and safety control team composed of toxicologists, physicians and pharmacists.

If this is really true then women can rest assured that the lipsticks meet the highest standards of safety, and so can be used every day – for warm weather glamor or as bright winter makeup.

The good news is consumers are in the driver’s seat now. Everyone is paying attention to what they buy because they have a right to health.

If the thought of washing your hair sends you into a panic because you know how long it takes to dry and style, read on. Drying your hair can be a real pain, but use some of this advice to make your hair dry faster and get out the door sooner:
how_to_make_wet_hair_dry_faster
1.       Always use conditioner. Conditioner will hydrate your hair and it actually repels water too. Conditioner will help seal in moisture after you shampoo and avoid absorbing more water than you need to.
2.      Wring out your hair in the shower. Don’t leave the shower with hair that is dripping wet. Flip your head upside down and shake out the water while you’re still in the shower with the water off and then wring it out in sections. This will help get rid of excess water before you ever put it in a towel.
3.      Get a microfiber towel. Microfiber is very absorbent and will help minimize breakage. If you have really curly hair, try using a cotton t-shirt to avoid frizz.
4.      Focus on drying your roots because they generally take longer to dry. Remove as much water as possible around your part to speed up styling time.
5.      Get a towel turban. Wrapping your hair up in a towel turban that will stay put better than a regular towel can help you get ready while your hair is wet and style your hair last. By the time you’re ready to style, your hair should be much drier. However, make sure to check that the towel isn’t too wet or it will defeat the purpose.
6.      Use a wide-toothed comb if you need to brush your hair or try a microfiber brush. Use a wide-toothed comb to separate the hair and avoid tangles. There are also now brushes with microfiber material that help soak up more water as you brush.
7.      If you’re in a rush, blow dry but use a product. Try a product that helps cut down on dry time or helps get rid of frizz. Section the hair and blow dry with low heat to reduce damage.
Lastly, leave it wet! As the weather heats up, let the sun naturally dry your hair and rock a natural look.

Everyone wants healthy, beautiful hair that’s smooth and has a noticeable glow. Often, it is hair care products that give people this shiny head of hair. But not all hair products are created equal. Some products use ingredients that can do a whole lot of harm to your hair. Here are some of the hair care ingredients to avoid at all costs.

Isopropyl Alcohol
This is a hair care ingredient anyone with dry hair should avoid. It can often be found in finishing sprays that are used at the end of a hair care routine. Isopropyl alcohol will cause dryness in your hair, and will make your hair feel brittle to the touch.

Hair Dyes that Only use Ammonia or Ethanolamine
If you want to lighten black colored hair, one of the best options is to use a light colored hair dye. When you’re looking at the ingredients on hair dye boxes, you may notice that many contain ammonia. This is commonly used in hair dye because it raises the pH of the hair, opening up the hair cuticles, which allows the color to get in. Ammonia also neutralizes the existing pigment, which is where the problem with it comes in. Because it neutralizes the existing color pigment, it’s basically impossible to get hair back to its original color. Also, the ammonia decreases the moisture in your hair, which causes damage over time. And the pigments also stay open after you dye your hair, which means the hair will lose protein and moisture, and the color could possibly fade. Since the dangers of using ammonia have been discovered, many companies have switched to ethanolamine, but unfortunately, this has the exact same effects as ammonia.

When you’re looking for a hair dye to lighten your black colored hair, try to find one that doesn’t use ammonia. Good hair care products will still use ethanolamine, but they’ll only use it as a base. And they’ll mix the ethanolamine with conditioning agents, creating a dye that’s less alkaline and is softer on hair. If you want to dye your dark hair, be sure to check the ingredients first.

Propylene Glycol
This ingredient can irritate your scalp, causing itchiness and redness. It also breaks down healthy hair proteins and the cellular structure of the hair. It’s even on the United States Environmental Protection Agency’s list of the top 10 hair care ingredients that can impact health. This ingredient can be found in all kinds of hair care products, including shampoo, hair dye, conditioners, and styling gels. Keep this ingredient far away from your head.

Polyethylene Glycol

This is another ‘glycol’ ingredient that you should try to avoid when you’re buying hair care products. Polyethylene glycol is designed to dissolve oil and grease, but it’s also very harsh on your hair, and it can make hair brittle.

Formaldehyde
Everyone wants to know the secret to smooth hair. Many women will try out a variety of products in their quest to get hair that’s smooth and shiny. If you’re one of those women, while you’re out buying your hair smoothing products, there’s an ingredient you should avoid at all costs: formaldehyde. It’s been found that some hair smoothing products contain harmful levels of this ingredient. This ingredient can cause allergic reactions in the skin, including rashes and itching. Formaldehyde is definitely not the secret to smooth hair, and it should always be avoided when you’re buying your hair smoothing products.

Sodium Lauryl Sulfate
This ingredient is commonly found in all sorts of shampoos, conditioners, and hair care products, but recently, it’s been found that this sulfate can have damaging effects on your hair and your health. The sulfate can cause contact dermatitis, which makes the skin itch and redden. It also has a degenerative effect on cell membrane, and it can cause eye damage as well. Once these facts came into light, many people decided to stop using anything made with this chemical. Because of that, there are now many hair care products available that don’t use sodium laryl sulfate.

TEA
Triethanolamine, commonly abbreviated as TEA, is often found in shampoos. This damaging ingredient is used to balance pH levels in the hair, but it has some nasty side effects. It’s notorious for causing allergic reactions, and it can cause dryness in your hair. It can also cause problems in your eyes if it is used for long periods of time.

These are some of the most common hair care ingredients to avoid when you’re buying products for your hair. Luckily, many companies have stopped using these ingredients after the damage they cause was discovered. By avoiding these ingredients, you’ll be on your way to having healthier and less damaged hair. Your hair will thank you for saving it from harmful chemicals.

Summer is a great time to experiment with new clothing, hairstyles, and types of makeup. If you’re unsure where to start with your summer makeup, check out these up-and-coming makeup trends.

Bright Colors
Colorful makeup is in this year. Bright colors appear in all types of makeup, including lipstick, eyeliner, eyeshadow, and nail polish. One of the big eye shadow colors featured on the runway was purple, and many models wore this color both on their eyelids and under their eyes. Teal was also popular, with many models wearing teal eyeliner. Brightly colored nail polish is also big, especially orange, hot pink, and yellow. Bright, colorful makeup is a great choice if you want to go for a bold look this summer.

Red Lipstick
Red is a classic lipstick color, and it’s making a comeback in a big way. Red lipstick was worn in many runway shows this year, and it’s also a favorite of many actresses and pop stars. Every woman needs a tube of red lipstick in her makeup case. This makeup's powers include the ability to make you look as glamorous as a 1940s film star.

Natural Makeup
While there are a lot of bright colors and bold makeup looks that are big this year, natural makeup also happens to be huge. Although the goal of this look is to make it appear like you’re not wearing any makeup, it actually takes a lot of makeup to pull off. You’ll need to apply foundation and concealer to make your skin even, and you'll want to wear a blush that’s close to your skin tone to give your skin a light flush.

For your eyes, choose an eye shadow that’s close to your skin tone, and pick soft gray or light brown eyeliner that will give your eyes a slight bit of definition. Finally, for your lips, pick the color that’s closest to your natural lip color. If you want to take part in both the brightly colored makeup and the natural makeup trends, you could alternate your look every other day, wearing teal or purple eyeshadow one day, and then natural makeup the next.

These summer makeup trends are fun to do and will make you look wonderful. Makeup’s powers include making you feel great about yourself, and transforming how you look on a daily basis. These trends do all that and more.

Deciding what makeup to wear for your wedding can be tricky. If you’re unsure about how to pick the right beauty rogue, lipstick, or eye shadow, these tips are for you. Here’s how to put together flawless wedding makeup.

Do a Trial Run
Doing a trial run of your makeup a few days before your wedding is extremely important, especially if you’re using colors or brands that you don’t usually use. When you’re doing this trial run, wear a white shirt so you can get an idea of how the colors will look with your wedding dress. Testing your makeup before the wedding day will help you find any problems while there’s still time to fix them.

Choose Products that Will Last
The wedding day is long, stressful, and emotional. Because of that, you need makeup that’s built to last. Waterproof mascara and eyeliner are a must-have, and you should always pick hardy lipstick, eyeshadow, and rogue. On the day of the wedding, be sure that one of your friends or bridesmaids has a touch-up bag on hand. That way, you’ll be able to quickly fix faded lipstick or eyeshadow.

Avoid Using Trendy Makeup
You want your wedding photos to look timeless, and one of the easiest ways to date the pictures is wearing the newest makeup fad. Instead of picking the makeup that’s cool now, try to choose classic colors. For your eyes, it’s best to go for a more neutral palate, because that’s timeless in a way blue eyeshadow isn’t. That way, your wedding pictures will always seem like they could have been taken just yesterday.

Make your Cheeks and Lips Pop
While it’s best to go neutral with your eye makeup, you want your cheeks and lips to pop. Choose a best selling lip color that’s a brighter red than you may usually use, and pick beauty rouge that accents your cheeks. These will help you stand out in any pictures taken throughout the day.

When you’re deciding on your makeup, choose best selling lip colors that make your lips pop, pick a timeless color scheme, and use makeup that will last from the moment you walk down the aisle until the last dance at your reception. If you do all of these things, you’ll have the flawless wedding makeup that you always dreamed of.
